Delegation of Swedish colleagues from Kungsmad Skolan

Last week we received a delegation of Swedish colleagues from Kungsmad Skolan. During the visit, the Swedish colleagues participated in various activities at Nova College, including a workshop by Pluspunt, a lesson visit in the engineering department, a Talking Stick dialogue training and a lecture about the Nova College windmill project. The Swedish colleagues were impressed by the collaboration between students and teachers, the ambitious projects that are being carried out at Nova College and the positive learning environment that is being created.

Third carousel ride of the Global 3D printing project

Last week, VET students from two Dutch (MBO) schools and two German Schools worked together on a sustainable future. Students from Talland College (Zaandam), Nova College (Beverwijk), BBS Verden and BBS Soltau picked one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and designed and 3D printed their own message to the world related to that SDG.
The students followed workshops at the 3D Makers Zone in Haarlem and virtually boarded the d3aak, a 3D printed sailing boat. They also worked on a project by Plastic Whale, aimed at cleaning up plastic in the oceans. The project was concluded with a presentation in English to colleagues from Oakton College in Chicago. The next exchange between the Dutch and German students is planned for December.

Teacher visit to C the Future event

This week teachers (seven in total) from Sam Eyde College (Norway), UCRS (Denmark), Santurtzi (Spain) and Miguel Altuna (Spain) paid us a two-day visit. Thursday there were guided tours at Nova College Beverwijk and Talland College Zaandam and a dinner in Amsterdam. Friday the group visited the C the Future event in Haarlem, with the 3D Makers Zone, a key partner in the Global 3D printing 2.0 project, as one of the organizing parties. The event gave us a clear picture and a lot of inspiration of where the tech sector is heading to.

Chicago trip

Last week 12 teaching and managerial staff of 5 European schools (BBS Verden Germany, BBS Soltau Germany, Pauliskolan Malmö Sweden, Teknikum Växjö Sweden and Regio College Zaandam Netherlands) visited Oakton Community College, Chicago in the US in the context of the 1 for All Global 3D printing project 2.0. We not only learned how to design, and 3D print SDG inspired tiles and cubes, but - more importantly - what we can learn from each other by sharing experiences and ideas. A very inspiring week! Thans Oakton team for making it happen!

Second carousel ride of the Global 3D printing project 2.0

Last week was our so-called second carousel ride, where five students from Pauliskolan visited their counterparts in Soltau to work on the so-called second building block of the statue of oneness (see picture). Besides hard work, there was also room for leisure, especially during the visit to the Heidepark amusement park on Thursday.

Teacher training Global 3D printing project 2.0

Today, 10 teachers (from BBS Soltau, BBS Verden, Nova College and Regio College) participated in the 1 for all teacher training. The day started with a so-called Talking Stick Dialogue training led by Marcel Toussaint.  After that there was an instructional session on how to use the Item System framework in our 3D printing project. Finally, there was an online workshop led by Erik Deuling on 3D design and 3D printing. Hartmut Vorwerk, teacher at BBS Soltau: “As a teacher you hardly ever talk about what it is to be a teacher, what it takes and what it brings. Very insightful.”

First carousel ride of the Global 3D printing project 2.0

Last week, it was finally our students’ turn to show what they ‘ve got. A team of four Nova students visited their Swedish counterparts at Pauliskolan (Malmö) and four students from Regio College traveled to Teknikum Växö. The week was filled with 3D design and 3D printing exercises, presentations and company visits. Fortunately, there was also plenty of time to enjoy Sweden and the Swedes.
